Joan Littlewood and the Theatre Workshop Collection, ca. 1937-1975.

Comprises notebooks, correspondence, scripts, and other materials documenting Joan Littlewood's activities within and apart from the Theatre Workshop from about 1937 until 1975. A group of notebooks maintained by Littlewood between the late 1930s and the early 1950s contains jottings on eurhythmics, dramatic theory, and actors, as well as drafts of dramatic dialogue. Correspondence of Littlewood with her husband Gerry Raffles during 1947-48 is present, as are smaller numbers of letters from Lionel Bart, Brendan Behan, Wole Soyinka, and other theatrical figures. About eighty scripts from the 1950s and '60s are included, embracing a number of notable playwrights such as Lionel Bart, Brendan Behan, Shelagh Delaney, Sean Kenney, Ewan MacColl, and Wole Soyinka.
